Activating your Metabolic Sparkplug

Last night we hosted a teleconference with Greg Ashby, Certified Holistic Health Counselor on our team, as he revealed his theory of how invisible stress prevents weight loss, creates nagging pain and leaves us tired and exhausted all the time.

Most importantly Greg shared his insights into how to reverse all of these conditions by “turning on” your Metabolic Sparkplug. Today’s article is written by Greg and a summary of what we discussed on the call.

If you missed the teleconference, pour yourself a cup of hot Tulsi tea, (you’ll learn more about this “Queen of Herbs” on the call) and find a comfy chair.

There’s an old natural healing adage:

“Are you a body with a mind – or a mind with a body?”

There is a dramatic and powerful direct connection between our mind and body, and of our body to our mind, in fact it really should not be called a connection because it is just one total “bi-directional system.”

Hans Selye, MD, the man who coined the word “stress” and first mapped out its biological effects said, “The modern physician should know as much about emotions and thoughts as about disease symptoms and drugs.”

Dr Bach, who created the famous Bach Flower Remedies also said that all disease had an emotional foundation and until this was resolved, no true healing could occur. This approach would appear to hold more promise of a “cure” than anything medicine has given us to date.

Flick the switch and turn on your Metabolic Sparkplug
Tomorrow when you get up, turn on your Metabolic Sparkplug within you and reignite your natural fat burning capability.

During the early years of human evolution, in order to survive, humans developed a “fight or flight” response that boosted adrenaline and blood sugar absorption to rapidly deliver energy, while at the same time shutting down non-essential functions like digestion and immune response.

Scientists have named this response-substance Cortisol and while we no longer fear for our lives from lions and tigers, stress from our always-on-the-go lifestyle generates the same Cortisol-raising response.

See if you recognize any of these conditions that can occur from chronically-elevated Cortisol:

  • Memory impairment caused by Hippocampal atrophy
  • Insulin resistance, leading to full-blown Diabetes
  • Atherosclerosis (blocked arteries supplying the heart)
  • Osteoporosis and porous bones
  • Sarcopenia (degenerative loss of muscle mass and strength)
  • Mood changes
  • Sleep changes
  • Hyper-excitation
  • Peptic Ulcer Disease
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Inflammed Bowel Disease (IBD) and Chron’s Disease (inflammation of the intestines)
  • Digestive problems and acid reflux
  • Neuromuscular complaints, cramping and Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Suppressed Immune System (always the first to catch a cold or flu)
  • Viral infections
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Sluggish metabolism

Three out of four (75%) of us have some or all of these! This is why so many of us cannot lose weight regardless of the diet, are moody and depressed, chronically fatigued, have memory loss and lack of sex drive. The list goes on and on.

All because of elevated Cortisol and your Mind/Body Connection not working properly. If you have heard of the “Dieter’s Paradox” where people jump from one “diet fad” to the next, but never manage to keep the weight off, this is elevated Cortisol.

Think yourself Thin
Let’s look at “visceral fat” for a moment, the squishy fat deposits stored mainly around your mid-section. The more visceral fat you collect, the more damage you are doing to your health. When your waist measurement gets above 37 inches, the visceral fat becomes an “inflammation-machine“.

But we’re going to show you how to burn this away. This means understanding our philosophy of The Body as Doctor. Both Wayne and I have shared this vision for over 20 years. Your body truly can become your doctor, available at all times, 24 hours a day, repairing damaged cells, nerves and neurons and preventing disease from even starting in the first place.

This is a very holistic concept of Health – Body, Mind AND Spirit

Body
  • How well do treat your body, how well do you feed your body?
  • Do you exercise? You should do it every single day.
  • Do you hydrate your body with water? Most of us are as dry as the desert and don’t know it.
Mind
  • What is your relationship with your mind? Do you set aside time to just think? Do you meditate? Do you dream?
  • Have you ever consciously “exercised your mind”? Crossword puzzles from the Sunday paper are great for the mind. So too is Sudoku, the Japaneses math brain puzzle.
  • The saying, “use it or lose it”, is very true about your Mind.
Spirit
  • Now here’s the deep one… What is you relationship with your Soul, your deep down inner-self?
  • When all these are working together as ONE, the magical mystery tour of Life explodes within you.

Drugs cannot create Energy – ONLY Metabolic Fuel creates Energy!
Here is a short list of herbs, vitamins and minerals I recommend to patients suffering from elevated Cortisol: (This is not intended to be an exhaustive list – if you have a specific concern, email or call me.)

Holy Basil – The Queen of Herbs
Revered in India for over five thousand years, Holy Basil (common name is Tulsi) is renowned for its restorative powers, as it is a rich antioxidant and one of the most effective adaptogens known.

I call Tulsi “Therapy in a Bottle”, as it can help balance blood sugar, reduce inflammation and boost your inner morale. If you would like to learn more this amazing herb, read the article we wrote in summer 2010 titled, “Dr. Adaptogenics will see you now”.

Tulsi is available in tea bags and loose leaf tea from most health food stores. Organic India is a good resource for teas.

Tulsi is a primary ingredient in Age-Less Rx, our anti-inflammatory formula and in Miracle of Life, our anti-aging formula.

Vitamin D – the Sunshine Vitamin that you can’t live without
Do you know your vitamin D level? Summer is over and while most people believe they get lots of sunshine, 95% of the population in America are chronically deficient in vitamin D! A simple blood test will tell you what your vitamin D level is – I think you will be surprised.

Vitamin D is not really a vitamin, rather it is a pro-hormone responsible for triggering over 200 metabolic and hormonal actions within the body. In addition to being responsible for immune system response, it helps balance blood sugar balance and regulate insulin activity, moderates hypertension and blood pressure, helps to lower inflammation, supports cognitive function and mood, especially as we age, plays a critical role in bone integrity and muscle composition and is proven as a direct link in lower the risk of all kinds of cancers, particularly bladder, breast, colon, ovarian, prostate and rectal cancers!

In the fall/winter, the sun moves lower in the sky and even if you could spend 8 hours a day outside, the sun does not generate sufficient ultraviolet radiation for your skin to make vitamin D, so supplementing is necessary.

Research studies are proving we need a minimum of 5,000 iu’s daily to support normal body function. Get a bottle of our Ultra D3 formula and take 2 capsules daily. It also includes Vitamin K2 and essential co-factors beta carotene, magnesium, zinc, boron to amplify the power of the D3, plus antioxidant vitamins C & E.

Trace Minerals
No doubt you’ve read a zillion articles from Wayne about the importance of minerals, so I won’t go into that here. Get a bottle of the Life Transfusion Liquid Mineral Complex and take it everyday. If you are new and want to learn more, download a copy of his book, The Key to All Health and Healing.

Imperial Herbs – Restoring your Ch’i
The Chinese have studied the effects of herbs on the human body for thousands of years and discovered certain rare herbs that contain an abundance of Ch’i (your functional energy or “life force”) that aid in building and maintaining physical, environmental and emotional balance. In Chinese pharmacopeia, these herbs are revered as the “Superior Herbs” or “Imperial Herbs” because they were selected for the Emperors, their families and the royal courts.

Emperor’s Ch’i is an herbal tonic (a liquid concentrate) based upon this traditional wisdom of Chinese medicine and herbalism and the philosophy that optimum health is a balance of energies as well as fusion of the body, mind and spirit.

Virtually every aspect of a person’s energy system, be it genetic, sexual, emotional, psychic, physical, or intellectual, is supplemented by consuming Emperor’s Ch’i.

Take 2 tablespoons in 6 oz hot water. I particularly like to take Ch’i in the evening with two Age-Less Rx capsules. The combination works wonderfully for releasing stress accumulated from the day and preparing the body for deep, rejuvenating sleep.

Explode into Contagious Health – Turn on your Metabolic Sparkplug, NOW!
Print this article and stick it on your refrigerator door and refer to it every day!

  • Start “talking to your body.” Send your thoughts throughout your body.
  • Eat “whole” foods. Not empty or processed “lazy” foods. Eat like your life depended on it, because IT DOES.
  • Drink and bathe in only the cleanest, purest water you can. We are 74% water, don’t poison it with pesticides, herbicides, chemicals and fluoride! And never drink Reverse Osmosis water – all the minerals have been stripped out! Bottled water is expensive, so get a countertop filtration system and Shower Mate to bathe in for pennies a gallon.
  • Breathe deeply – into your belly. Oxygen is one of the 3 basics of life.
  • Exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY. Just 45 minutes is all it takes. When you exercise, you are telling your body that you want to live, it gets you breathing deeply and helps to clear your mind.
  • Finally use herbs, vitamins and minerals to help lower Cortisol, reducing inflammation and restoring the natural balance to your body to re-ignite the spark that fuels our metabolic system.

If you have a specific health concern or question, feel free to contact me.
