GLUTATHIONE: As Seen on TV

“Many antioxidants work for one thing, or two things, or three things. Glutathione works for everything.”
Robert H. Keller, MD, MS, FACP, AAHIVS

Recently, the Dr. Oz Show featured the blockbuster amino acid, Glutathione.  He highlighted the fact that Glutathione is the BEST defense against cellular damage, aging and a host of diseases.

This single nutrient is able to clean your body, your lungs and furiously defend your body against contaminants and chemical assaults.

Glutathione aids our bodies in cleaning out the waste by:

  • working in the liver as a detoxifier
  • working in the spleen to strengthen immunity
  • shuttling needed protein between cells
  • alerting the immune system against invaders

Without this cleansing, every cell in your body would die prematurely from its own waste matter. Isn’t that a lovely thought?

The more I learn about this wonder nutrient, the more I’m convinced it truly is a secret savior.  Dr. Oz considers Glutathione to be the “Super Hero” of Antioxidants.

Watch and listen to Dr. Oz explain the spectacular, superhero antioxidant – Glutathione!

Glutathione: The Master Antioxidant

Last year, a blog post by Charles Mattocks, featured on Dr. Oz’s website, said this about Glutathione:

“There is an antioxidant that most of you probably haven’t heard of before: glutathione. I take this every day, and it has done wonders for me. I first tried it when a good friend mentioned it to me, and Dr. Oz has talked about glutathione on his show.

As a person with diabetes, I need as much support for my body as I can get. People with poorly controlled diabetes may have significant depletion of glutathione levels. Some of the complications of diabetes are linked to oxidative damage due to the elevated blood sugar levels – complications such as damage to the large and small blood vessels, diabetic retinopathy, kidney disease, nerve damage (“neuropathy”), skin problems, dental problems and increased risk of infection due to a weakened immune system.

As a major antioxidant in the body, glutathione helps to reduce oxidative stress and its consequences. Research studies have shown that supplementation with glutathione precursors may help to reduce oxidant induced cell damage in diabetics. Diabetics should do their best to support their immune system, as it helps them in fighting against various complications due to an already compromised immune function. An important component that helps ensure the normal functioning of the immune system, glutathione may help people with diabetes in strengthening their immune response. Foods such as olives, olive oil, avocado, asparagus, broccoli, garlic, raw eggs, spinach and fresh meats may help your body make the glutathione it needs.

After being diagnosed three years ago, diabetes has become my life and my passion. My goal and hope is to share tips and healthy recipes as well as my knowledge and passion. We need a superhero in diabetes, and I am putting my cape on.”
