Cholesterol’s “deadly” Cousin

February 11th, 2011

February is American Heart Month and Valentine’s Day falls right in the middle of it. Is there some connection there?

Amongst all the Valentine’s Day cards and boxes of chocolates, a giant piece of information has gone missing – but not here at our little company.

While all the attention today is on high Cholesterol, nothing has been said about Cholesterol’s even more dangerous killing-cousin, “Homocysteine.”

Put down that box of chocolates for a moment and find out about something that is far more dangerous than bad cholesterol – and how we have solved the problem.

Earlier this week we introduced our new Clean Heart” Blood Pressure formula, possibly one of the greatest gifts to mankind we’ve been associated with for it’s dramatic effect on rapidly lowering high blood pressure. If you missed the announcement, read the article: Spinach’s Super Powers Revealed.

Today, we follow that up with a full briefing on an equally dangerous culprit in the battle against heart disease.

  • Have you ever heard of “Homocysteine“?
  • Do you know what your level is?
  • Has your doctor ever mentioned it? Probably not.

Homocysteine is now recognized by leading, intelligent doctors and researchers as more deadly than high cholesterol. Do yourself a giant favor and next time you’re in for a blood check, make them do a Homocysteine check too, it won’t take a second and could save your life.

When the levels of this substance called Homocysteine in your blood becomes too high, the perfect conditions are created for plaque buildup.

Homocysteine is an amino acid that promotes the growing of smooth muscle cells just below the inner wall of the artery. Multiplying rapidly, these cells create a deadly bulge that protrudes into the artery itself. On the bulge, cholesterol, blood products, and calcium begin to accumulate.

These are the blood traps that lead to problems like impotence, poor memory, heart attacks, strokes, and even death.

And research indicates that you should be just as concerned, if not more so, over your Homocysteine level as you are over your cholesterol levels.

“Homocysteine” – Is this what really causes Alzheimer’s?

September 14th, 2010

A recent survey found that a staggering 92% of people said they had “senior moments” every day.  Do you constantly “misplace” your car keys? Or get up and walk into another room, only to forget what you came there for?

I always tell people that “B” Vitamins are called “B for Brain”. Every action of the brain needs lots and lots of B vitamins, every single day. Yet, these are practically non-existent in the Standard American Diet (SAD). No wonder its called SAD; unhappiness, anger tantrums and depression are the first signs of vitamin B deficiency in the brain.

But lack of B vitamins can lead to something far worse. Alzheimer’s, the unknown disease just a few years ago now seems to strike every single family with devastating effect.

My own family has been “struck” by Alzheimer’s. My dear old Auntie Gladys, was reduced to a life of a zombie, living in a constant fog, not recognizing any of us towards her untimely death a few years ago.

But good news is here! Mother Nature, as always, has an answer!

“Homocysteine” – Is this what causes Alzheimer’s?

The next time you get a cholesterol check up, ask for – NO, DEMAND – a “Homocysteine” check as well. Most doctors won’t tell you to get one because there is no kickback of big buck$ from drug companies, as there is no drug for treating homocysteine.

Homocysteine occurs naturally in the bloodstream and comes from an amino acid called “methionine”, which is present in all animal and vegetable protein. As part of the digestive process, methionine is broken down into homocysteine. As long as certain helper nutrients are present (like vitamin B6) homocysteine subsequently converts back into one of two harmless amino acids.

Guess what?

The typical American diet is chronically low in vitamin B6 and nowhere near the amount needed to protect the body. Just last week we introduced a new study out of Oxford University suggesting high doses of B vitamins (B6, B12, Folate) may HALVE THE RATE of brain shrinkage in older people experiencing some of the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Vitamin B “puts off” Alzheimer’s

September 10th, 2010

Next to “Cancer”, the most frightening word in everyday language is “Alzheimer’s”. It strikes without warning and finding a “cure” is next to impossible, researchers say.

But just yesterday, groundbreaking news hit my desk from England about an in-depth study that shows dramatic hope to “put off” Alzheimer’s and maybe totally beat it.

A new trial suggests high doses of B vitamins may HALVE THE RATE of brain shrinkage in older people experiencing some of the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Brain shrinkage is one of the symptoms of mild cognitive impairment, which often leads to dementia. Here’s some quick facts on brain shrinkage:

  • The average brain shrinks at a rate of 0.5% a year after the age of 60.
  • The brains of those with mild cognitive impairment shrink twice as fast. (1.0%)
  • Alzheimer’s patients have brain shrinkage of 2.5% a year.

If we can find a way to slow the rate of brain shrinkage, this could be the first step towards finding a way to delay the onset of Alzheimer’s, researchers believe.

The study, published in the journal Public Library of Science One from Oxford University included members from several departments within the University, including members from the Oxford Project to Investigate Memory and Ageing (OPTIMA), looked at 168 elderly people experiencing levels of mental decline known as mild cognitive impairment. This condition, marked by mild memory lapses and language problems, is beyond what can be explained by normal aging and can be a precursor to Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

In the trial study, one-half of the volunteers were given a daily tablet containing the B vitamins Folate, B6 and B12 at levels well above the recommended daily amount. The other half were given a placebo. After two years, the rate at which their brains had shrunk was measured.

The clinical trial found that on average, in those taking vitamin supplements, brain shrinkage slowed by 30%. In some cases it slowed by more than 50%, making their brain atrophy about the same as people without cognitive impairment.

Did you catch that? Up to 50% improvement! This is significant by any measurement.

Mercury in your Omega-3?

July 27th, 2010

Did you know that nearly everyone (statistically over 99% of us!) are deficient in vital Omega 3’s?

Omega fatty acids are a crucial component of life, yet our SAD (Standard American Diet) barely has any. Your brain, for example, is 70% fatty acids – without Omega fatty acids, your brain dehydrates.

Research suggests that Omega-3’s play a major role in combating most chronic illnesses, like depression, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer, dementia, autism, ADHD, inflammation, and autoimmune diseases.

As a food-smart, nutrition-minded individual, you’ve probably been supplementing with fish oil for years. The latest research though, is frightening in its findings:

Fish-source Omega-3 can be dangerously high in Mercury!

According to a recent article in the NY Times, a sampling of tuna sushi from 20 restaurants and stores all had measurable levels of Mercury. In some of the restaurants, the level was so high, that just 6 pieces of sushi exceeded the “safe limit” set by EPA.

As even a negligible trace amount of Mercury can be highly dangerous, particularly to the brain, this is a matter of high importance to everyone.

That is why we have made the dramatic move to go totally “vegan” and non-seafood in our source of Omega-3 rich oils in our Omega 3/6/9 formula!

This new upgraded Omega fatty acid formula is a perfect blend of all the Omega’s needed by the body. And, it even has a higher quantity of Omega 3 compared to our previous fish-oil formula.

There’s no possibility of Mercury contamination, as the Omega’s come from Flax Seed Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil and vegetable oils of the highest possible purity and strength.

Pregnancy, Alzheimer’s and Vitamin D-3

July 21st, 2010

John Cannell, MD - Executive Director of the Vitamin D Council

I happened to turn on the radio Sunday morning and I instantly recognized the voice. Being interviewed was John Cannell, MD, Executive Director of the Vitamin D Council, the foremost authority on vitamin D worldwide.

He was participating in a talk show interview with Katherine Albrecht, sharing amazing statistics, facts and insights into vitamin D deficiency. For example, did you know that 99+% of all pregnant women in America are deficient in vitamin D?

Do you know someone who is pregnant and about to have a child? Or at the other end of the life spectrum, do you know someone showing the initial signs of Alzheimer’s?

There’s a common link to both these totally diverse conditions: Vitamin D-3!

Vitamin D-3 is absolutely critical to a fetus’ development during pregnancy, and also lowers pregnancy complications, including gestational diabetes, preterm birth, and infection. According to a new research study by the Medical University of South Carolina, women who take 4,000 IU of vitamin D-3 daily in their second and third trimesters had one-half the incidence of pregnancy-related complications compared to women who took 400 IU of vitamin D every day, says neonatologist and study co-researcher Carol L. Wagner.

Vitamin D-3 also is beneficial for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s, playing a role of helping to clear amyloid beta proteins which form the plaques that lead to Alzheimer’s.

For years you’ve heard me talk excitedly about about Curcumin, the ultra-powerful antioxidant compound from the Turmeric root, and how it shows promise in breaking down these plaques, well just last week scientists at UCLA and UC Riverside published their research findings in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease showing that combining Vitamin D and Curcumin for Alzheimer’s patients, may work better than either compound alone.

“We hope that vitamin D3 and curcumin, both naturally occurring nutrients, may offer new preventive and treatment possibilities for Alzheimer’s disease,” said Dr. Milan Fiala, study author and a researcher at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the Veterans Affairs Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

The team discovered that curcuminoids enhanced the surface binding of amyloid beta to macrophages and that vitamin D strongly stimulated the uptake and absorption of amyloid beta in macrophages in a majority of patients.
